How Powerball works
Powerball is drawn three times a week, on Monday, Wednesday and Saturday nights at 10:59 pm Eastern. Five white balls come out of a drum numbered 1 to 69, then one red Powerball comes out of a second drum numbered 1 to 26. The results on this page update automatically after each draw.
- Pick five numbers from 1 to 69 and one Powerball from 1 to 26, or ask for a Quick Pick and let the terminal choose.
- Each play costs $2. Adding Power Play costs $1 more and multiplies any prize below the jackpot.
- In states that offer it, Double Play costs $1 more and enters the same numbers in a second draw held straight after the main one.
- Match all five white balls and the red Powerball to win the jackpot. There are nine ways to win in total, starting with the Powerball on its own.

Questions people ask
What time is the Powerball drawing?
Powerball is drawn at 10:59 pm Eastern Time every Monday, Wednesday and Saturday. Ticket sales usually close one to two hours earlier, depending on your state.
What does the Power Play number mean?
The Power Play is a multiplier drawn with each game. If you paid for Power Play, prizes below the jackpot are multiplied by that number. The Match 5 prize with Power Play is fixed at $2 million. The 10x multiplier is only in play when the advertised jackpot is $150 million or less.
What is Double Play?
Double Play is an add-on sold in some states. Your same numbers go into a second draw held after the main Powerball draw, with its own set of winning numbers and its own prizes. Its numbers are shown under the main result on this page.
How long do I have to claim a Powerball prize?
It depends on the state where you bought the ticket, usually somewhere between 90 days and one year from the draw date. The deadline is printed on the back of most tickets.
