How Mega Millions works
Mega Millions is drawn every Tuesday and Friday at 11:00 pm Eastern. Five white balls are drawn from 1 to 70 and one gold Mega Ball from 1 to 24. Since April 2025 every play costs $5 and has a multiplier of 2x to 10x printed on the ticket, which boosts any prize below the jackpot.
- Pick five numbers from 1 to 70 and one Mega Ball from 1 to 24, or use Quick Pick.
- Each play costs $5. Your ticket shows a multiplier (2x, 3x, 4x, 5x or 10x) for each line, and it applies automatically to non-jackpot prizes.
- Match all five white balls and the Mega Ball to win the jackpot. Matching the Mega Ball alone is the smallest prize.

Questions people ask
What time is the Mega Millions drawing?
Mega Millions is drawn at 11:00 pm Eastern Time every Tuesday and Friday. Sales cut-off times are set by each state, usually 15 minutes to an hour before the draw.
What changed in April 2025?
The ticket price went from $2 to $5, the Mega Ball range dropped from 1–25 to 1–24, and the optional Megaplier was replaced by a multiplier that is built into every play. The first draw of the new game was on April 8, 2025.
Why is there no multiplier in the results?
Under the current game the multiplier is printed on each ticket rather than drawn, so there is no single multiplier for a draw. Older results from before April 2025 show the Megaplier that was drawn at the time.
Do statistics include the old game?
White-ball statistics count every draw since October 2017, when the white balls became 1 to 70. Mega Ball statistics only count draws since April 8, 2025, when the Mega Ball range changed to 1 to 24.
